Under Your Tank Lid

Get familiarized with the parts of
your tank and their purposes

Service Valve

Your tank’s service valve is the controlling mechanism allowing propane gas to flow into the house or building by way of the gas piping system. To cut off your system you turn the service valve wheel clockwise until it is closed.

Regulators

The purpose of the regulator is to control the flow of gas vapor from your tank to your propane appliances. As part of controlling the flow, the regulator also provides a level of safety by providing over pressure protection by preventing too much gas flow to an appliance.

Liquid Level Gauge

Liquid level gauge monitors the percentage level of propane in your tank. Most gauges will be located under the tanks lid next to the service and/or fill valve.

Pressure Relief Valve

A pressure or safety relief valve is a safety mechanism that every propane system needs. It allows excess pressure in the tank to be slowly and safely released. Without this valve, pressure can build up and cause the tank to crack or rupture.

Benefits of Propane

1.

Propane is a clean burning fuel that doesn’t produce buildup, meaning appliances require less maintenance, which leads to lower  safety risks.

2.

Propane is widely available, and keeps your appliances running even in extreme weather conditions. You can count on always having power with whole home generators, heat with gas logs, and a place to cook with a gas range.

3.

Propane appliances are more efficient than electric appliances which can save you money on high energy bills.
